What Did He Really Mean?

The diatribe coming out of some people has always amazed me.
Some are so entrenced in their controversal teachings, that they forget their own miniscule place in the big picture.
Let us consider the words coming from Pat Robertson, on the recent earthquake in Haiti.
"They were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon III, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, we will serve you if you'll get us free from the French. True story. And so, the devil said, okay it's a deal [...] ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after the other."

Am I to believe that Mr. Robertson has had a personal conversation with the Devil?
Did God appear to Mr. Robertson and give him the whole story, note he says "true story"
Is Mr. Robertson trying to create a nominated place for himself in history and before God or the Devil?

What did he REALLY mean?
